Join me on my super realistic step-by-step home improvement journey!
I have set out to accomplish 100 positive improvements to my home! As a busy mom without tons lots of time or money, I want to inspire you with small projects that add up to big satisfaction! Even with family and pets messing it up as I go, I am determined to do this and you can too!
If you are like me and you love HGTV, but you are also like me in that you lack the time, resources and lifestyle to make your lofty home dreams a reality, we will get along just fine! Because with a little inspiration (and perhaps a bit of desperation), we will make a bunch of little progress that adds up to big improvements!
Since we moved into our home about 6 years ago, I have painted (then painted, and painted some more), redecorated rooms, whitened grout, replaced hardware, refinished end tables, stained the dining room table (twice), reimagined our entertainment center, gave the stairs a new finish, refreshed the bathroom and so much more!
This blog is for busy folks who do not have the home guru gene or the time to cultivate it, and who simply enjoy a good challenge. We ae all for puttering and imperfection, because that can be fun and rewarding too! And it can even lead to some great results. For me, they are my small wins, and I have a whole list of them. I have a list of some disasters too, because it really is a journey.
But here’s my problem.
When I watch Fixer Upper or any of the other shows that make me salivate over their perfect design, I forget that once the family moves in and life takes over, the house does not stay in this showcase-style perpetual state of perfection!
Life happens. Kids run through rooms like little tornadoes, you eat dinner on the couch, laundry baskets emerge, and if you are a pet household you will at times find animal fur taking over your once perfect carpet.
This blog is about being real and imperfect, because I am real and imperfect, and so is my home. But it is also about vision, inspiration, perseverance and improvement. The satisfaction of envisioning something and making it happen, while all the while fighting for a few minutes of time and trying to stay awake.
I will show you the good, the bad and the messy – the beautiful rooms and then the reality of the aftermath where the dishes are dirty, socks are on the floor, and living life takes over.
The challenge:
I am going to choose 100 things I want to improve in my home, and document how I accomplish them and how they come out!
The only criteria for the content of this Home Hundred is that the 100 things I include will cumulatively will improve the state and beauty of my home in a more lasting way than a deep cleaning. That’s it! That’s the goal!
The bonus:
I can’t stand strong odors or dangerous products, so I often go out of my way to find safe and mild products when possible to complete a project. I will share here my recommendations on the cleaners, paints and finishes that I love to use!
